Turtle Medicine Rattle
Both the Turtle and the "wizard wand" like handle were found while hiking along the shore line of Lake Ontario.
Painted with a variety of symbols, the Turtle shell's top side displays a Peace sign, the four colors of the races of People and directions of North, East, South and West. It depicts the Bird clan, the Sun, Rain, Lightning, an Arrow, a Warrior hunter and his prey, the Sacred Pipe and a symbol of the Creation.
The bottom side shows the four races, the elements of Air, Fire, Water and Earth at one end. It has a an Earth, the Moon and the Stars at the opposite end. The outer edges of the shell have been dotted in color and lightning bolts - depicting the Thunder Beings.
Construction of this Rattle is of very high quality, with a cut and molded skin of Deer at each opening, secured to the shell and the handle. The handle runs completely through the body of the Turtle, which is secured with pegs decorated with a variety of beads, both antique glass and hand made, along with brass.
The percussion is very defined. The contents are 33 Quartz Crystal points and 11 black Basalt stones, bringing the count to 44 total.

Bear Medicine Rattle
Made with the root wood from an Apple tree, the Bear Medicine Rattle is decorated with Black Bear fur from the North Eastern NY state area. A black Touch Stone from the shore of Lake Ontario adorns this rattle. At the top is a natural Bear bead (knot from a branch) - only the ears have had a small bit of carving to bring out the Bear. The body of the rattle is Mule Deer which contain 22 small black Basalt stones from the shore of Lake Ontario. The sound is a deep healing tone. Made with Buck horn and Turkey wing, this unique Ceremonial rattle is decorated by the beautiful feathers of the Turkey.
